Sleeping NAKED is good for you... says science!

If you are one of the few Australians that go to bed starkers each night, you may just be on to something!

Studies have shown that it may better to leave your cuddly, koala pyjamas for lounging around the house instead of wearing them to bed.

This is because sleeping naked is not only comfortable (and liberating), but it also has many surprising health benefits that you've probably never considered before...

1. A Deeper and More Peaceful Sleep

Pyjamas help to keep you warm but this may not be a good thing when it comes to getting a peaceful night of sleep. According to the National Sleep Foundation, having a cooler body temperature is actually better when it comes to getting a good night’s sleep.

As we sleep, our body temperature automatically drops which helps to lull us into REM sleep, and wearing pyjamas can stall this process. According to Lisa Shives from the National Sleep Foundation, “Your body temperature progressively declines as you sleep, which is a natural tendency of the body, so being too warm with heavy PJs and blankets can disrupt that.”

2. Weight Loss and Reduced Cravings

Another surprising benefit of sleeping naked is weight loss. When your body is cooler during sleep it helps to burn more calories. This in turn, can help to speed up your metabolism, which can also contribute to weight loss.

Sleeping naked also helps to regulate cortisol levels, which can also help you to lose weight, especially if you are prone to overeating when stressed or emotional.

3. Glowing Skin and Hair

If you are looking for all that all-over glow without using expensive skin creams, sleeping naked can help with that. When your body temperature drops at night, melatonin and growth hormone are released. These help to regenerate your skin and hair cells naturally.

They can also help to prevent ageing and keep you looking youthful and radiant. When you sleep naked, your body temperature is able to drop faster and lower, which helps to strengthen these effects.

4. A Happier, Healthier Love Life

Sleeping naked with your partner can do wonders for your relationship and love life. Having skin on skin contact can reduce the barriers around making love and can also help to stimulate the release of oxytocin. This hormone is known as the “cuddle hormone” and can help strengthen the feelings of trust and love between you and your partner. It can also help to elevate your mood.

5. Allows You to Be More Productive

When you sleep naked it forces you to get up and get dressed for the day ahead. When you sleep in pyjamas however, there is the tendency to lounge around and get distracted. Once you've ditched the pjs you'll also be more productive at sleeping in general - no more annoying tags or tight waistbands!

6. Improves Your Circulation

Without annoying elastics or the twisted fabric of your pyjamas, your blood circulation can also flow better throughout the night, which can lead to increased oxygen flow, healthier skin and a stronger immune system. By allowing your blood to circulate freely through your body can also help you to wake up feeling energised and ready to start the day.

7. Reduces Stress

Sleeping naked can help to keep your cortisol levels in check, which are responsible for helping you to regulate and manage stress. When you sleep naked it helps to reduce cortisol levels, which leads to a decrease in anxiety, stress, food cravings and negative emotions. Sleeping naked can help to promote feelings of liberation and self-confidence, which will help to reduce feelings of stress.

The best thing about sleeping naked is that it is also super easy to do. It requires no effort, and the rewards are limitless.

So, instead of spending money on overpriced pjs, consider ditching them for a sleep in the nude. It could just change nearly every aspect of your life!

Sweet dreams, koalas.
